I Pitched Jack59 on Dragons' Den (and I Don't Remember a Thing)

I have been keeping a secret for the past six months, and if you know me, you know that has been no easy feat.

In May, I travelled to Toronto to film for Season 21 of Dragons' Den. Jack59 will be featured in Episode 6, airing:

Thursday, October 22 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC TV and CBC Gem

Why I Said Yes

Stage fright and I go way back. Standing in front of a panel of investors was never on my bucket list. But I knew the Den would put our mission in front of the whole country.

Our mission as a company is to change how the beauty industry impacts the environment, and to prove, through science and innovation, that natural, sustainable hair care doesn't have to sacrifice quality. That is far more important than a temporarily dysregulated nervous system!

Three Weeks to Get Ready

I had only three to four weeks to prepare, and my team and family came together to help me workshop a plan for my prime-time TV debut. We talked through the pitch, the numbers, and every question we thought the Dragons might throw at me.

And Then I Walked on Stage

Being me, nearly all of that prep went out the window. My nervous system took over, and I blacked out the moment I walked onto that stage. Classic.

So I honestly can't tell you how it went. My TV debut will be just as much a surprise to me as it is to all of you.

Why This Matters

It is an honour and a privilege to be chosen to represent sustainability in the beauty world, Indigenous and women business owners, and my beloved community of like-minded folks. That's you.

Every bar we make is proof that you don't have to choose between hair care that works and hair care that's better for the planet. I got to say that on national television, even if I don't remember saying it.

How to Watch

Tune in to Episode 6 of Dragons' Den on Thursday, October 22 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC TV, or stream it free on CBC Gem. You can find full episodes and behind-the-scenes content at cbc.ca/dragonsden.

I'll be watching right alongside you, probably from behind a pillow.

With gratitude,
Vanessa
